Admission
After checking in, one of our nurses will escort you to a private room.
- You will change into a hospital gown and robe. We will store your clothes and personal belongings in a secure locker.
- We will check your blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, rate of respirations and oxygen level.
- We will review your health history and medications and go thru a pre-op checklist.
- We will have you sign a consent for your surgical procedure if you are 18 years old or older. A parent or legal guardian must sign for a patient under the age of 18.
- We will have you verify the correct site of surgery by placing an X with a marker.
- Following these things your family and friends may join you until you go into the operating room.
- We will discuss and answer your questions about your procedure and the aftercare.
- The Anesthesiologist (MD) will visit with you to review your health history and discuss any problems you may have experienced with anesthesia in the past. During this time you will decide with the Anesthesiologist what type of anesthesia you will receive.
- Your surgeon will visit with you and your family to explain your surgery and answer any questions you or your family may have. The surgeon will verify the surgery you are to have and will initial the correct site with a marker.
- When it is time for your surgery most patients walk to the operating room accompanied by an RN from the surgery. Your family or friend will wait in the front lobby.
