The billing statement from the Institute for Special Surgery will include the facility fee plus any additional supplies used in connection with the procedure. The surgeon and anesthesiologist will bill their fees separately. You may also receive a separate bill for lab or pathology fees and radiology services.
If you provide the appropriate information, our business office will submit a claim to your insurance company. We will forward this insurance information to the anesthesia service. We ask that you bring your insurance information (including any cards) with you the day of surgery.
Your surgeon's office will obtain any precertification that your insurance company may require. Please make sure the surgeon's office has your correct insurance information. Also inform them if Workers' Compensation or auto insurance may take precedence over your health insurance.
You are responsible for any balances not covered by your insurance carrier. We encourage you to talk to your carrier directly to verify coverage for your particular procedure. Also, please check for any referral and/or second opinion requirements.
If you do not have insurance coverage, please arrange with our business office in advance for payment of your bill.
We give you a discount if you pay in full at the time of surgery. Otherwise, we require partial payment on the day of surgery, with regular monthly payments thereafter. We also accept Visa and MasterCard.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding any of the billing procedures, our billing department will be happy to help you.
