Pre-surgery phone call
A pre-op nurse will call you the afternoon before your surgery to confirm arrangements. The nurse will review with you:
- The procedure you are scheduled for.
- Time we need you at the surgery center.
- We will give you instructions when you need to stop eating and drinking before surgery. It is very important for these instructions to be followed or your surgery may be cancelled.
- Review your medical history.
- Review your previous surgeries and if you or a family member ever had problems with anesthesia.
- Review your allergies and your medications you are on and tell you which medications you should take the morning of surgery. Please bring your medications with you to the surgery center, including insulin and inhalers.
- Verify your arrangements for a responsible adult to drive you home from the surgery center and remain with you overnight.
